Born of multiple roots, Nomad ben Stones is a project inspired by the billions of dust particles that each of us sows along the way. From this wandering through the pursuit of life, we explore the possibilities of a music whose boundaries move with the times.
After winning the Ali Maâchi d’Alger prize in 2015 for the song « Mayou », then Révélations Radio-Canada in the world music category in Montreal in 2019, the nomadic souls of this Afro-Oriental indie blues project are settling in France to write their new album.
This next EP, « Sohan », will be released in May 2024 with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. It invites listeners on a poetic journey inspired by the encounter between an astronaut and a Tuareg united in their quest for a lost star. Desert guitar, classical violins and electronic keyboards combine to explore the unknown paths of memory and reinvent the figure of the nomad driven by boundless curiosity.

Melvyn Price now concludes a trilogy beginning with Jazz Balett Rhythms, 1970, followed by Rhythms II, 1971.
The rhythms have been perfected and developed into melodies which were influenced by African music. Melvyn Price has had a great deal of experience with his type of music through Reeboup Kwaku Baah, Ghana, now working in London.
The music has still the same distinct, urging, rhythm which made both the previous records so highly valued. The basis to this distinct rhythm has been the American Jazz Music with which Melvyn Price has grown up.
The musicians around him on this recording come from different parts of the world, but are very receptive in understanding how he wishes to express his music.

UK-based instrumental band, MAYBESHEWILL, celebrate 10 years of their fourth studio album ‘Fair Youth’, with a newly remixed & remastered version of the record by the bands own Jamie Ward.
As Jamie explains: “Fair Youth is a pretty ambitious album. The arrangements are pretty maximalist and we were treading new ground with the instrumentation. For this 10 year anniversary reissue I felt I could get more out of the album with a full remix rather than just a remaster. With 10 years more mixing experience under my belt I feel a bit better placed to conquer the wall of sound and get a little more separation between the instruments to really bring out the details of those arrangements. In general I’ve tired to make things hit a little harder and be bit a more vibrant and technicolour.”
On its original release in 2014, DIY Magazine said that the band “had never sounded better”, while Rocksound called the album “an undeniably engaging listen”, and this new version presents a fresh way to experience the music.

This new recording by Matteo Cicchitti and his ensemble Musica Elegentia is devoted to Michele Mascitti, a Baroque composer who, already in his time, was particularly esteemed and rightly considered a major testimonial of Italian instrumental music in France in the 18th century. In particular, this world premiere recording of his Triosonatas op. 1, published in Paris in 1704, spotlights the composer’s attempt to recall the tradition of the Corellian sonata, while complying with the French ‘gout’ of the dedicatee, the Duke d’Orléans.

Maria Faust´s Jazz Catastrophe was originally founded in Copenhagen in 2012 as a modern big band, The present album documents its third mutation. Concentrated and reduced down to its essence like a thick syrup, the new music is performed by a trio where Maria Faust´s alto saxophone is flanked by long-time associates Lars Pilgaard on guitar and Anders Vestergaard on drums.
”Moth” is Faust´s 15th album and as the name suggests, it is inspired by the life of those mysterious nocturnal creatures – moths. Their being attracted to light is called positive phototaxis and although there is much speculation as to why, the reason is still unknown. The potentially fatal lure of artificial light that seemingly changes the will of the moth, is a central theme of the album. It is a bittersweet realization of the similarities to human behavior. We can all hear the warning sounds of “hells bells” when something is about to go wrong, but we choose go straight towards the flame anyway. This is part of the human experience but it’s important to say that these compositions are not about death and demise. “Moth” is primarily an album for star-crossed lovers. In euphoria they see only the light. In here lies the beauty of the metaphor and the reality is that this is music that is so stripped down, real and beautiful that it can hurt you, but you won’t be able to turn away.

Kamasi Washington releases his new album, Fearless Movement, via Young. Washington calls Fearless Movement his dance album. “It’s not literal,” Washington says. “Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music—expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.” Dance as an embodied form of expression signals a shift in focus for Washington. Where previous albums dealt with cosmic ideas and existential concepts, Fearless Movement focuses in on the everyday, an exploration of life on earth. This change in scope is due in large part to the birth of Washington’s first child a few years ago.
“Being a father means the horizon of your life all of a sudden shows up,” says Washington. “My mortality became more apparent to me, but also my immortality—realizing that my daughter is going to live on and see things that I’m never going to see. I had to become comfortable with this, and that affected the music that I was making.”
The album features Washington’s daughter—who wrote the melody to “Asha The First” during some of her first experimentations on the piano—as well as a host of collaborators new and old. André 3000 appears on flute, George Clinton lends his voice, as do BJ The Chicago Kid, Inglewood rapper D-Smoke and Taj and Ras Austin of Coast Contra, the twin sons of West Coast legend Ras Kass. Washington further enlisted lifelong friends and collaborators Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Patrice Quinn, Brandon Coleman, DJ Battlecat and more.

Their playing highlights the lavish, extravagant, and witty elements of a repertoire principally designed to entertain an aristocratic society on the decline. They re-imagine rococo ballrooms and salons as contemporary dance floors, Haydn as the Beyoncé of the 1770s. Their sound is rich and nuanced in depth thanks to the employment of both the harpsichord and the double-bass, instead of the traditional cello.
