“Before the Flood” is a documentary from Fischer Stevens that follows actor Leonardo DiCaprio on a three-year journey as he surveys the impact of climate change. Its soundtrack is a superb collaboration between multi-instrumentalists and producers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, revered composer Gustavo Santaolalla, and Scottish post-rock outfit Mogwai. Opening things nicely is the title track. Comprised of minimal yet solid electronic beats and wavering Swarmatron sounds, the piece is littered with some melancholy piano and striding basslines. Santaolalla’s diverse use of strings and acoustics also functions perfectly upon Reznor and Ross’ canvas of intertwining electro-organic beauty.

Tonu Naissoo is an Estonian jazz pianist and composer. His debut took place in 1967 at the Tallinn International Jazz Festival. In 1970s and ’80s he was very active jazz musician in former Soviet Union’s jazz scene. He toured and played in jazz festivals in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belorussia, Ukrainia, Moldova, Georgia & Azerbaijan. From 1980’s he started to play abroad, including Germany, Belgium, Cuba, Finland, France, England and Ireland. In 1989 he got scholarship to Berklee College of Music in USA.

Ernesto Antonio “Tito” Puente was an American musician, songwriter and record producer. The son of Ernest and Ercilia Puente, native Puerto Ricans living in New York City’s Spanish Harlem, Puente is often credited as “The Musical Pope”, “El Rey de los Timbales” (The King of the Timbales) and “The King of Latin Music”. He is best known for dance-oriented mambo and Latin jazz compositions that endured over a 50-year career. He and his music appear in many films such as The Mambo Kings and Fernando Trueba’s Calle 54. He guest-starred on several television shows, including Sesame Street and The Simpsons two-part episode “Who Shot Mr. Burns?”. His most famous song is “Oye Como Va”.

After the success of his first album, devoted to Locatelli’s 24 ‘Caprices for solo violin’, Gabriel Tchalik takes us to Russia in the second half of the 20th century, following in the footsteps of Boris Tishchenko (1939-2010).
This album features the world premiere recordings of Tishchenko’s complete works for violin. To underscore this event, Gabriel Tchalik wanted to bring together with this album three outstanding personalities from the intellectual and artistic world of this post-Stalin era: a composer, a painter and a writer, each of whom, in his own way, depicted Soviet reality of the time. Instigator of Moscow’s famous so-called ‘Bulldozer Exhibition’, repressed in 1974 by the regime, Oscar Rabin is a painter now internationally known; 12 of his unpublished drawings, dating from the 1950s and ’60s, are thus presented in this new album conceived as an art object. Drawing their inspiration from the same Soviet reality and attesting to the ephemeral artistic effervescence that occurred at the moment of the Thaw, they closely echo the music of Tishchenko. So it is with the text by Nicolas Bokov, a dissident writer forced into exile by the same regime.
