Clarinetist Julian Bliss is a versatile player who has performed concertos, chamber music with various top players, and jazz with his Julian Bliss Septet. He is also the designer of the Bliss Clarinet, marketed by the Leblanc line of the Conn-Selmer instrument maker. Bliss was born in St. Albans or Harpenden (the two towns are adjacent) in England’s Hertfordshire region in 1989. He was a child prodigy. Bliss’ family was not musical, but when he was four, his parents took him to a music shop, and he immediately settled on the clarinet; he was given a Lyons C clarinet made for children. By five, he was already appearing on television, and at six, he was invited to play at Buckingham Palace.

When he wrote the cycle that was to change the musical course of the twentieth century, Arnold Schönberg wanted the 21 melodramas based on Albert Giraud’s famous collection of poems to be ‘spoken and sung’ in the language of the country in which they were set, in keeping with the fledgling Berlin cabaret tradition… In doing so, he may not have appreciated the problems that the exercise would pose. The fate of Albert Giraud’s verses is inextricably linked to Otto Erich Hartleben’s free translation of them. It was in this version that they were most frequently set to music. Stripped of their rhymes and original metre, they are in fact another poetic work. When Darius Milhaud presented Schönberg with a French version recited by Marya Freund in 1922, the composer was disappointed and went so far as to say that he did not recognise his own work!

The centenary of the birth of Charles Mingus, in April 2022, has served to reinforce his importance in twentieth-century music. His “achievements surpass in historic and stylistic breadth those of any other major figure in jazz.” (New Grove Dictionary). Mingus could be angry, even violent, but also loving and tender, and all of these aspects of his complex character are reflected in his music. As he once said, “I’m trying to play the truth of what I am. The reason it’s difficult is because I am changing all the time.”

Matt Haimovitz – Primavera III: The Vessel (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 53:41 minutes | 969 MB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © PentaTone
PRIMAVERA III: the vessel is the third of six albums in a momentous series encompassing 81 world premieres for solo cello. This digital album presents 9 new commissions by THE PRIMAVERA PROJECT for groundbreaking, multi-GRAMMY nominated cellist Matt Haimovitz. Composers from diverse backgrounds respond to Sandro Botticelli’s enigmatic painting, Primavera, and the prophetic large-scale triptych, Primavera 2020, by world-renowned contemporary artist Charline von Heyl.
Referencing the time of Botticelli, PRIMAVERA III the vessel begins with Josquin des Prez’s Praeter Rerum Seriem, arranged for cello choir by Haimovitz and offering 500 years of perspective on the newly commissioned works. Stripped of the Latin text, Josquin’s repeating motives and ubiquitous canons are illuminated by the six celli (all recorded by Haimovitz at von Heyl’s artist studio in Marfa, Texas) in this contrapuntal tour-de-force.

Michael Monroe – I Live Too Fast to Die Young (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz | Time – 37:59 minutes | 467 MB | Genre: Rock, Punk
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Silver Lining Music
“I live too fast to die young, it ain’t nothing when your head’s screwed on,” roars the Crown Prince of exciting, electric frontmen Michael Monroe on his second album for Silver Lining Music, I Live Too Fast to Die Young (the follow-up to 2019’s critically acclaimed One Man Gang) and these 11 proclamations prove he is so right. Not even a pandemic could stop Monroe and his band from throwing down the tightest, leanest, meanest and most goddamn fun rock ‘n’ roll music of the year, and the likes of “Young Drunks & Old Alcoholics”, “All Fighter” and the punky “Murder the Summer of Love” show the crisp electricity of CBGB-style punk with glitter-crusted melodies wrapped around the riffs. There’s also expansive, Stones-tinged saunters such as “Can’t Stop Falling Apart” and “Everybody’s Nobody”, while the title track takes aim between your eyes off a driving back-beat and a defiant chorus dripping with Monroe’s irrepressible attitude. Recorded at Inkfish Studios in Helsinki, Finland between November/December 2021, the album enjoys several guests including Guns N’ Roses guitar legend Slash, who solos and provides additional guitars on the title track. With I Live Too Fast to Die Young, it is clear Monroe is swaggering into the summer with a triumphant roar to offer you the real rock ‘n’ roll escape of 2022. I Live Too Fast to Die Young will be available on CD Digipak, 12” Vinyl, Digital Download and Streaming and special D2C bundles. Available to pre-order from March 22nd 2022.

Moka Efti Orchestra – Telegramm (2022)

Máté Pozsár – Etudes for Unacorda (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/192 kHz | Time – 48:16 minutes | 1,67 GB | Genre: Jazz, Experimental Jazz
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Digital Booklet, Front Cover | © Hunnia Records
Unlike the piano, each note of the unacorda has one string. This sound is ethereal. It’s hard to understand it’s clear sound in musical textures with many notes, so unacorda is really suitable for performing music with fewer voices in particular. With my improvised etudes I tried to adapt to this property of the instrument. In my pieces I tried to create strict rules based on geometrical musical shapes and symmetries, and then I tried to play with these spontaneously. In addition to the small number of voices, the etudes are characterized by polymodality – the simultaneous sound of several modalities.
