Hans Knappertsbusch (born March 12, 1888 in Elberfeld (today: Wuppertal); October 25, 1965 in Munich) was a German conductor.
Hans Knappertsbusch was born as the son of a manufacturer from Elberfeld. He already showed his interest in conducting as a student by conducting the orchestra of the local gymnasium. After graduating from school, he studied at the conservatory in Cologne. There he learned conducting from the then famous Fritz Steinbach. From 1909, his early work as a Kapellmeister included Mülheim an der Ruhr, Bochum, Elberfeld and Leipzig. At the same time, he assisted the then festival director Siegfried Wagner and, above all, the Wagner conductor Hans Richter in Bayreuth from 1909 to 1912. This was a time that had a formative influence on his musical interpretation style and initiated his development as a Wagner conductor of international stature. In 1914 he first gained attention by directing the Wagner Festival in Holland. His path then led him to Munich via the Dessau Court Opera, where he became Germany’s youngest general music director in 1919. The Gürzenich Orchestra and its chief conductor François-Xavier Roth dedicate their first release on myrios classics to two symphonies by Robert Schumann. The album is based on live recordings made at Cologne’s Philharmonie.
In 1841, Robert Schumann finally had the breakthrough he had long dreamed of as an orchestral composer. He created no less than two works that year: his first, the »Spring Symphony«, and a piece he originally conceived as a »Symphonistic Fantasy« and which later turned into his Symphony in D-minor.
The »Spring Symphony« was written in the coldest depth of winter. It is a work of longing which knows only one direction: growth, blossoming, forging a path towards light and new life. The Symphony No. 4 in D-minor, on the other hand, seems far more shadowy and personal, »a work created from the depths of the soul«, as Clara Schumann confided in her diary. The audience, however, failed to warm to the impetuous work, leading Robert Schumann to put it aside in resignation after the first performance. Only ten years later, he revised the work, which then appeared as his Fourth Symphony.
This album combines the »Spring Symphony« with the first version of the Symphony in D-minor – a version preferred by several of Schumann’s friends, including Johannes Brahms. During Schumann’s lifetime, however, it was never performed again. It was the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne which gave its next performance in 1889, under the baton of Gürzenich kapellmeister Franz Wüllner.
François-Xavier Roth also prefers the original version of 1841. »In its sparser instrumentation, it is more radical, demanding extreme dedication from all of us.«

In spring 1994 Mouse on Mars contributed an exclusive piece to Sähkö Recordings’ ambient radio project, a one-week public radio program that was aired citywide in Helsinki, Finland. Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner recorded sounds in and around their studio in Düsseldorf Bilk to construct one continuous composition that spanned the course of one neighborhood walk. Midi-controlled synths, samplers, analogue effects, tape delays, effect pedals, guitars and a jew’s harp were juxtaposed with recordings captured during the walk. An additional microphone that pointed out of the studio window was occasionally dubbed into the mix. The resulting collage was broadcast just a few months before the group’s debut album Vulvaland came out and never aired again. 30 years into the band’s existence Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner revise the duo’s history by producing three LPs that would place the band’s discography under a slightly different light. Bilk marks the beginning of that investigation: a free-flowing assemblage of everything that vibrates and can be caught on tape. A 30 year old recording with subtle new edits and additions.

After meeting and jamming at the Nordtrad conference, Ragnhild Knudsen (Norway) and Pauliina Syrjälä (Finland) formed their duo in 2015. The musicians were immediately inspired by the unique soundscape of the Norwegian hardingfele (Hardanger fiddle) and the Finnish kantele together, with the rich and shimmering layer of overtones.
Through musical encounters and hours of exploration, Ragnhild and Pauliina have created their own musical duo world based on friendship, interaction and improvisation, but also an interesting combination of elements emerging from Finnish and Norwegian folk music traditions.
We have been talking with each other, for hours and hours. In between, we have played and made music, with many strings. The strings of our instruments have been talking to each other and to us. Through this ongoing dialogue we have created our musical landscape. As folk musicians, our music has its roots in traditions. In this case, the traditions are geographically quite widespread, between Norwegian mountains in the west, to the Karelian woods and lakes in the east.

João Marcondes is a composer, writer, lyricist, poet, arranger, producer, instrumentalist and music educator. Paulistano with roots Vale Paraibanas, Marcondes, recently launched the methodology universe of sounds – with 52 books and educational SL-with 16 books.
He has four works released for ballet with his group Orquestra Camerística De Butiquim with instrumentation and languages peculiar to Brazilian Chamber Music. And works for chamber music interpreted by OSESP musicians – in the albums Canto Errante, Pindorama – Terras Brasis, Todo dele em nós and Eu que não conhecia o amor – todos de 2022.
In his discography are records of composition of lyrics and music being two works shared with the poet and composer Celeste Antunes. Three works shared with Joca Freire. And three works shared with Guilherme Lacerda. Six works of improvised aesthetic-jazz and experimental complete the discography of Marcondes.
He produced around 70 albums, among independents, for CPC-UMES, GRAVASAMPA and the BAC Discos label – created by him in 2003 in order to raise and contribute to Brazilian artists in their first works.

This compilation collects a number of 7” singles produced by Audio Productions Ltd. in Kenya’s capital Nairobi in the first half of the 1980s and released on the Wendo, Lulus, Mlima and APL imprints.
The bands featured on this release are the New Gatanga Boys, Ruwengo Bros Band, Banana Hill Band and Les Victoria ‘C’ Kings from Kenya, Les Moto Moto and Orch Les Volcano from Tanzania (the latter being led here by Charles Ray Kasembe after the death of the legendary Mbaraka Mwinshehe). The closing track is by Orch Zaituken Band, whose name is a contraction of the countries its members came from: Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. The group is emblematic of the Kenyan capital’s role as a magnet for East African musicians seeking to earn a living by recording and playing live in the 1970s and 1980s.

The 18 Nocturnes by John Field (1782-1837) are timeless jewels of the piano repertoire. With his works, the Irish composer and pianist built a bridge between the Classical and Romantic periods and is often regarded as a pioneer of the nocturne, a genre that was later made famous by Chopin. Fields’ nocturnes are characterized by their dreamy, introspective and lyrical character lyrical character. They are “tone paintings of the night”, each piece a tender, emotional journey through the moonlit landscapes of the soul. The innovative use of the sustaining pedal and the gentle, singing melodies create a unique atmosphere. The nocturnes are not virtuoso showpieces, but intimate expressions of feeling. They offer pianists the opportunity to explore fine phrasing and nuanced dynamics, which requires both technical precision and deep emotional connection. Notable examples include the Nocturne No. 2 in C minor, a haunting piece that inspired later composers such as Chopin, and the Nocturne No. 5 in B flat major with its delicate, cascading arpeggios. The young English pianist Tyler Hay has made a name for himself as one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation with his recordings for Piano Classics of works by Liszt (PCL 10138), John Ogdon (PCL 10132) and Kalkbrenner (PCL 10190). “Tyler Hay impresses me deeply. He is an award-winning product of the Purcell School, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal College of Music. His technique is more than equal to anything on offer here and he combines this with a subtle sense of rubato, a keen sense of style and a real commitment to the music. I hope to hear more from him.”
