Spectre is the third album by the late West Coast composer, healer, and medium Pauline Anna Strom. First released in 1984, the album finds Strom exploring the darker corridors of human mythology under the influence of vampiric lore, evoking a hushed gothic solitude and showcasing her breathtaking dexterity of sound design. Despite its shadowy hues, Spectre offers generous glimpses of a vivid light that could only have come from a heart wide open to the cosmos. Restored and mixed from the original reels by Marta Salogni, and newly remastered, this is the album’s first ever official reissue, and the definitive edition of a visionary statement.

In the 80s west African music scene, it was often the way that a talented musician, composer or singer would labour away at a series of obscure, under-financed, poorly engineered recording projects before hitting gold. Such seems to have been the narrative with the comparatively unknown but very talented songwriter/vocalist Charles Kwadwo Kwarteng: Mr Cee.

Always eager to reach contemporary audiences without compromising his values, Woody Herman saw to it that his repertoire included interpretations of material carefully chosen from the pop charts. In 1972, such choices were still possible, and The Raven Speaks presents Tony Klatka’s arrangement of “Watermelon Man,” Bill Stapleton’s of “It’s Too Late,” and Alan Broadbent’s of “Summer of ’42.” The band incorporated a demon trumpet section led by Al Porcino, the drumming of Joe LaBarbera, and tenor sax solos by the rising star Gregory Herbert and by Frank Tiberi, who was to take over the band following the leader’s death 15 years later. Herman himself solos brilliantly on clarinet and soprano sax.

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of “111” by Tiziano Ferro (originally on November 7, 2002), “111 (Anniversary Edition)” is released, a remastered bilingual re-edition (Italian and Spanish).

“111” is Tiziano Ferro’s album which continued the success of the sensational debut of “Rosso Relativo” (2001). Having become one of the best-selling albums of the moment in a very short time, it is a masterpiece album that has refreshed and changed forever the sound of pop music in Italy and Europe, reaching the top of the sales charts in Italy and entering those of Belgium, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.

Among the 13 autobiographical songs contained within it, the success of the singles “Sere nere”, “Non me lo so explain” and “Xverso” is inexhaustible, which still continue to resonate in the listening of the general public – precisely the Spanish version of “Sere nere” (“Tardes negras”) has in itself exceeded 110 million plays, establishing itself as the most listened to Titian song in streaming – together with songs of extreme delicacy and intimacy such as “13 anni” and “Chi non ha talent teaches” rather than the jazz excursus of “Temple bar”.

Tiger Village – The Celebration (2023) [Official Digital Download 24bit/48kHz]

Tiger Village – The Celebration (2023)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/48 kHz | Time – 50:46 minutes | 590 MB | Genre: Electronic, IDM
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Hausu Mountain

Cleveland-based producer Tim Thornton makes music under the moniker Tiger Village. Thornton has carved out a niche in the American experimental underground through the wide-spanning releases of his own label Suite 309, as well as through his day job as a quality control supervisor at the Gotta Groove Records manufacturing plant — meaning that his ears serve as the finish line for a vast slate of vinyl projects that hit the market every year. The Celebration, the fourth Tiger Village release on Hausu Mountain since 2014, joins a catalog that includes releases on Orange Milk, Patient Sounds, and HausMo sublabel Blorpus Editions, along with a battery of music self-released through Suite 309. Within the jittering IDM-adjacent networks of The Celebration, Thornton expands his craft on multiple concurrent trajectories, digging deeper into complex drum programming and labyrinthine synth arrangement while further exploring passages of vocal synthesis and non-recursive song structures that thrive on unpredictability and constant fluctuation. Thornton can’t help but bring a wide-eyed curiosity to anything he produces, as he rejects the dead-serious gun-metal intensity of many strains of contemporary electronic production in favor of bright tones and wonky rhythms. Like fellow Hausu Mountain artists Wobbly and Moth Cock, Tiger Village revels in cheeky compositional about-faces and carnivalesque synth lines. In all their staccato voices and peals of abstract texture, Thornton’s tracks blur the lines between harmonic electronic elements and drum patterns. The album morphs before our ears every few seconds or so, allowing arrhythmic loops and alternating rhythmic grids to contrast against whatever might seem to be the bedrock of any given piece. By paying attention to the trajectory of every dollop of sound, Tiger Village pulls off magic tricks in his pointillist arrangements in which nothing remains static — everything pushes towards a state of progressive complication.

The Bar-Kays released their first single “Soul Finger” in April 1967. That same year they were chosen by Otis Redding to play as his backing band. In December Otis and four of the Bar-Kays band members died in an airplane-crash. Trumpeter Ben Cauley, Bassist James Alexander and producer Allen Jones assembled a new lineup and became the Stax house band. The 1978 they released ‘Money Talks’, in fact an album of unreleased Stax material. ‘Money Talks’ is the essence of late 70’s funk. The title track is the most mainstream cut, but that’s just an aperitif for the rest of the album. Two superb versions of their top ten hit-single “Holy Ghost” with a sheer percussive joy held together with prototypical Stratocaster work. ‘Money Talks’ is for sure a 100% Soul-Funk classic!

Niño colors open minimalist soundscapes with overdubbed percussion, cymbals and plants.
