This is a live recording of the recital given by Josep Colom at the Fundación Juan March in Madrid on 10 October 2018. Designed to encourage an original way of listening to music, the programme consists of a linked se- quence of single movements or pieces taken from collections. Together these form an uninterrupted whole that reveals hidden analogies between Schubert and seven other composers: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms and Schoenberg. Josep Colom also revives a once common but now forgotten performing tradition: that of using improvisation to create transitions between fully composed works. His concise extempore interludes lead the listener smoothly from one composition to another, creating a kind of continuum of sound.

7 years have passed since the release of my “Guitar Heroes” Album (with Tommy Emmanuel, Biréli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg as guests). I always wanted to bring the concept of mixing gypsy swing classics and original compositions with titles from other musical genres (pop, latin, western swing, etc.) to stage. I have managed to record 4 concerts over the past few years, of which the long-awaited LIVE CD with a selection of the different performances is finally available. In addition to my trio, Biréli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg are on board again. Richard Smith and Olli Soikkeli could be won as additional guests.

Like all musicians, Jorma Kaukonen had to reinvent himself during the year-long pandemic shutdown. Following decades as the lead guitarist of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Hot Tuna, he found himself last year pondering his next move amidst his many guitars at his Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio. Before long, he began reconnecting with his fans by performing free live stream concerts every Saturday night. Going one step further, he led three virtual classes for guitarists in March. With the advent of relaxed regulations for public gatherings and touring musicians, he traveled to New York to perform four sold-out concerts at a reduced-capacity City Winery NY.

In 1996, the young violinist Jorge Jiménez heard Bach’s Goldberg Variations for the first time in Glen Gould’s famous version on a simple cassette recorder. Since then, this wonderful composition has not let him go. At first he resigned himself to the fact that as a violinist he would never be able to play this work. But over time he realised that several voices can sound at the same time on the violin, as Johann Sebastian Bach exemplifies in his six famous partitas and sonatas for solo violin. Finally, he set to work and began to transcribe one of the most complicated piano pieces of the Baroque into a piece for solo violin.

Deluxe remastering of three recordings that include the three most famous songbooks of the Golden Age (1451-1595). The Sevillian Cancionero de la Colombina and Cancionero Musical de Medinaceli are samples of a musical humanism with a distinctly Hispanic stamp, in which the cultured and the popular come together. The Castilian Cancionero de Palacio is the most valuable and representative jewel of the repertoire performed in the itinerant Courts of the Catholic Kings, including songs, Christmas carols, ballads and ‘extravagances’ by authors such as Encina, Millán, Escobar, Anchieta and Peñalosa.
The Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XX and Jordi Savall made them known to the world through these famous recordings made between 1991 and 1992.

So Tender is Gaspar’s third work in unaccompanied acoustic bass guitar format. The antecedents are AKIXÍ (2007) and La Nit (2012). In them you can see how Gaspar turns this instrument into the color palette to paint his compositions. In So Tender he offers his particular connection with the jazz repertoire, tailored to his instrument and himself. The performance generally includes exposition of the theme and improvisations in the most jazz sense. Gaspar alternates the role of soloist with the role of rhythm section, managing to delimit the message and maintain interest. These versions are permeated by the emotional character of Gaspar.

Jonian Ilias Kadesha has worked with leading artists and orchestras such as Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Nicolas Altstaedt, Steven Isserlis and Patricia Kopatchinskaja to name but a few.
