Influenced by the Specials, Public Enemy, and the Clash, London collective the King Blues combine folk-punk, Two-Tone, and dub reggae with overtly political lyrical themes on a sound self-described as “conscious rude boy ska.” The band originally formed as a duo in 2004 before vocalist/ukulele player Jonny “Itch” Fox, and guitarist Jamie Jazz decided to expand their sound, recording with a number of various musicians before settling on the permanent lineup of guitarist Dean Ashton, bassist Kat Marsh, keyboardist Josie Dobson, and drummer Jack “Percusher” Usher. In 2005, they released their debut EP, All Fall Down, which was later followed by their 2006 full-length album, Under the Fog. After signing with Island subsidiary Field Recordings, it was reissued a year later, and following support from influential Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Mike Davies, they scored a couple of minor hits from their follow-up, Save the World, Get the Girl (“Headbutt” and the title track) in 2008. A Live Lounge cover of Dizzee Rascal’s “Bonkers,” which they regularly played in their live set, became their most famous recording, and in 2011, they released their third LP, Punk and Poetry, through indie label Transmission. At the beginning of 2012, the band headed to California to record with producer John Feldmann (The Used, Good Charlotte) for what would become their third album. Releasing a statement in April 2012, the band announced they had decided to go their separate ways, with the album Long Live the Struggle becoming the final chapter of their recorded output.

The Kills have compiled an extraordinary career spanning b-sides and rarities album titled, appropriately, Little Bastards. The songs date back from the band’s first 7-inch singles in 2002 through to 2009. All of the material has been newly remastered for release on 2xLP, CD & Digital and marks the first ever vinyl pressing for some of these tracks.
The compilation includes the unreleased and never-before-heard demo Raise Me from the 2008-2009 Midnight Boom era. Other highlights include I Call It Art from the Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited covers compilation, the brilliant Midnight Boom digital bonus track Night Train, a blistering performance of Love Is A Deserter from an XFM radio session and a handful of classic American roots songs performed with the kind of bruising delivery they’re famous for: Howlin’ Wolfs’ Forty Four, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ I Put A Spell on You and Dock Boggs’ Sugar Baby.

The new song comes from the sessions for their last album, which today receives the deluxe edition treatment and now comes with added stripped down versions of the singles ‘Blowback’ and ‘Caution’ – performed with one acoustic and the other in ‘Wasatch Style’, respectively. In the 1960s the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band became the first important European large jazz ensemble. It was European with an asterisk. Many of the players were American expatriates (drummer/co-leader Clarke, saxophonists Johnny Griffin and Sahib Shihab, trumpeters Benny Bailey and Idrees Sulieman). But co-leader/pianist/arranger Boland was Belgian. England was well represented (saxophonists Ronnie Scott, Derek Humble and Tony Coe, trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar). Trombonists ke Persson and Erik van Lier were from Sweden and the Netherlands, respectively.

The group’s The Jacksons (1976), Goin’ Places (1977), and Destiny (1978) will arrive digitally on February 12th with the addition of bonus tracks. A double-LP edition of The Jacksons Live! (1981, recorded on the Triumph tour) will come out on March 25th.
