The 1984 Falco album “Junge Roemer”, for a long time by far the most expensive record ever produced in Austria, in a visually redesigned “Helnwein Edition”. Instead of a dinner jacket, Falco now wears a leather jacket. In addition, there are liner notes by Helnwein himself and further, previously unpublished photos. In honour of the quite provocative artist Helnwein, who celebrates his 75th birthday in October 2023 and has cultivated a special friendly closeness to Falco.

When Falco embarked on his “Emotional” world tour in September 1986, he was at the peak of his career: the fourth album of the same name was #1 in the album charts in Germany and Austria, he had superstar status in the German-speaking world and in the largest part of Europe and “Rock Me Amadeus” from the previous album “Falco 3” brought the Viennese eccentric to number 1 on the Billboard “Hot 100” charts in March of that year – as the only artist in the USA to ever achieve this historic peak with a German-language song could climb. On June 9, 2023, Warner Music will release this top-class contemporary Falco document. “Live Forever: The Complete Show (Berlin 1986)” contains the full-length Berlin concert (22 tracks – 2023 remaster).

With this Hit, Falco has made chart history: it is the only German-language Hit to date to climb both the top position of the American Billboard Charts and the British Top 40. That the Hit also went to Number 1 in Germany and in Falco’s home country Austria is almost self-evident. But that’s not all: Falco also became the first white man to enter the American Black music Charts with a”Rap” Hit. There it reached at least Place 6. this record was valid at least until the appearance of Eminem in 2002.

Junge Römer (Young Romans) is the second album by Austrian pop rock artist Falco, released in 1984. While the phrase in the German language is correctly written “Junge Römer”, the title of Falco’s album and single in both German and English pressings is “Junge Roemer”. The album was a No.1 hit in his native Austria. The title track was a hit single there as well as in Switzerland, and most notably in Spain, where it peaked at No. 2. Still, the project was considered a relative disappointment compared with the international number one success of the breakthrough hit single, “Der Kommissar”, from his previous album, “Einzelhaft”. This inspired him to change producers and incorporate more English phrases for titles and choruses, which resulted in a trio of worldwide hits two years later with “Rock Me Amadeus”, “Vienna Calling” and “Jeanny”.

Johann Hölzel, better known by his stage name Falco, was an Austrian singer, songwriter and rapper. “Einzelhaft”, (Solitary Confinement or Incarcerated!), is his first album. It was released in Austria, Germany, the United States, Japan, Spain, Italy, Canada, Sweden and Finland. The album achieved some success with its flagship single, “Der Kommissar”, an innovative and influential German-language rap song. A Promo Single, “Auf der Flucht (On the Run)”, was released in the USA and France. In 1983 the single “Maschine Brennt / On the Run” CD hit #9 of US Club Play Singles. Other songs on Einzelhaft are heavily indebted to the “Berlin Trilogy” of David Bowie: “Nie mehr Schule” borrows its music from Bowie’s instrumental track from Low called “Speed of Life”, whereas “Helden von heute” is a transparent rewrite of Bowie’s song, “Heroes”.
