Two-time Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist GILL LANDRY returns with his new fifth solo studio album Skeleton At The Banquet.

Landry was originally from Louisiana and started out as a busker on the streets of New Orleans before becoming a contributing member of the band Old Crow Medicine Show with whom he recorded 4 albums and toured from 2004 to 2014. He’s released 4 solo albums to critical acclaim, featuring such artists as Laura Marling, Brandi Carlile, Klara Soderberg (First Aid Kit) and Karen Elson among many others.

Gill Landry’s “Love Rides A Dark Horse” follows his critically acclaimed self-titled 2015 album. Rolling Stone raved that the record landed at “the four-way intersection between Dylan-inspired folk-rock, atmospheric Americana, dusty cowboy songs and street busker ballads,” while American Songwriter hailed it saying “these songs, and especially Landry’s honest performance, resonate long after the last note fades. They beckon you back to further absorb his heartfelt, occasionally comforting, musings on the trials and tribulations of romance-gone-sour. This album breaks new ground for Landry with contributions from fiddler Ross Holmes (Mumford & Sons, Bruce Hornsby), keyboard player Skylar Wilson (Andrew Combs, Rayland Baxter), and drummer Logan Matheny (Roman Candle, Rosebuds), the songs explore a more seductive, stripped-down sound built upon a hushed sense of intimacy that calls to mind Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. The album’s tattered narratives cast aside romanticism in favour of reality.

Gill Landry has a lovely, lilting voice, and a real gift for melody and lyrics. The songwriting isn’t complex, but it is brilliant. There are fantastic moments. My favourites are Just Like You – with incredibly evocative lyrics (Hung up and wasted in an artless town/thinking of old loves in wedding gowns) hung on a wonderfully sad melody, and Take This Body, with the added bonus of a Laura Marling guest appearance. But the whole album is a beautiful piece, which matches some of my moods in ways that no other music I have does.
