Au Pays d’Alice… is a jazz musical inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Accompanying Ibrahim Maalouf on this adventure is the Malian-born rapper-poet-actor Oxmo Puccino, who narrates the tale. Rich with influences from multiple genres and cultures, the work offers a stunning adaptation of Carroll’s story. It features a wide range of musicians including a thirty piece classical orchestra and the children’s choir of Radio France. Make no mistake, this recording is a musical event. Maalouf and Puccino take listeners through the looking-glass into a new and exciting sound world.

Ibrahim Maalouf plunges into his new adventure S3NS (his 11th studio album) with the impertinent freedom that only independent artists can still afford. This self-produced collection follows the same logical sequence of creative artisanal construction as all Ibrahim Maalouf’s previous albums, with striking Latin American influences from the very first track. In the past, Ibrahim has the chance to work with many South American artists including the Chilean ?ngel Parra – son of the great poetess Violetta Parra – with whom he recorded a whole album more than 17 years ago, and Lhasa De Sela, whose incredible Mexican-American voice who charmed the whole world on The Living Road. Along the way, Ibrahim has also worked with a number of Cuban artists, including Raul Paz, Ernesto Tito Puentes, Omar Sosa and Ibeyi, to name but a few. On this new album, Ibrahim is surrounded by highly talented guests, notably three virtuosos from the new generation of Cuban pianists – Harold Lopez Nussa, Alfredo Rodriguez and Roberto Fonsec – as well as the saxophonist Irving Acao and the violinist and singer Ylilian Canizares. So S3NS seems like an obvious move. Not really jazz, not exactly pop and sometimes rock, Ibrahim Maalouf offers us hybrid, fresh, nostalgic but always unclassifiable music? The real thing from Maalouf, with plenty of Latin flavour!

Heralded by The New York Times as a “virtuoso of the quarter-tone trumpet,” Maalouf gracefully marries musical traditions from his native Lebanon and his adopted France, blending Levantine melodies with modern jazz improvisations. In 2016, he performed at the Lincoln Center, alongside pianist Frank Woeste, saxophonist Mark Turner, bassist Larry Grenadier, and drummer Clarence Penn, in an unforgettable tribute to Oum Kalthoum, the legendary Egyptian vocalist.

Performing with Maalouf this evening is the Free Spirit Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Rossi, the National Children’s Chorus, and the pianist Ji.

The New Levant Initiative commissioned Levantine Symphony N°1 to celebrate the vibrant and shared identity of the Levant. Maalouf describes this musical composition as an ode to the Levant. With his new work, Maalouf weaves together the threads that bind the people of the Levant together not only in music and poetry, but also in a shared collective identity and memory, with the hope that a progressive and integrated new Levant will thrive once again.

As much as jazz musicians love to do it, the Christmas album exercise can quickly turn stale. Especially when you opt for a repertoire essentially composed of hits like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Oh Christmas Tree, Il est né le divin enfant, Petit Papa Noël, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow, Silent Night and Jingle Bells. But here, Ibrahim Maalouf has managed to create an impeccable record that gives his trumpet an even better showcase than usual. The starting point of the project is a set of very personal values. “It’s an album of 25 great Christmas standards and 3 new songs that I wrote to celebrate both my son’s very first Christmas and my grandmother Odette’s very last one last year. My memories of Christmas are full of wonderful moments and I wanted to record the album in a way that would capture the magic of those moments.“

Paris-based trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf’s moody mix of jazz, groove and Lebanese traditional music comes across rather like a cut-up novel by William Burroughs or a collection of short stories by Paul Bowles, or at least a shot in that direction. Partly it’s the source material, in which Maalouf’s east Mediterranean musical heritage replaces those authors’ fascination with Morocco; partly it’s the structure of the album, in which a series of relatively brief, cross-referential tracks, most lasting between two and less than five minutes, are assembled in an episodic collage. Though carefully put together over three years, the music has an attractively rough-edged feel: hot, sun baked and m’hashish, as Moroccans would say (and as the title of the fourth track confirms).

Following 2007’s Diasporas and 2009’s Diachronism, Beirut-born trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf rounds off his musical trilogy with his most personal effort to date, Diagnostic. Featuring 11 original compositions all inspired by his family, the winner of Discovery of the Year at the 2010 French Jazz Music Awards showcases his piano skills for the first time on another intriguing blend of Balkan brass, Latin jazz, funk-soul, classical, and heavy metal, which also features a collaboration with French rapper Oxmo Puccino (“Douce”). ~ Jon O’Brien

In 2005, before the release of his first album, Ibrahim began a work that seemed obvious. With his first album, Ibrahim had made an artistic proposal, but was far from having finished all he had to say. And this second album was the logical continuation of the first one. An evolution in the form of a question. “Do I have to evolve necessarily in a clear artistic direction: Oriental, or Occidental? Am I obliged by my origins to take refuge in the ease of the exotic? Ibrahim asks this question through an amazing process. One “DISORIENTAL” and the other “PARADOXIDENTAL”, and both treat the same question from two distinct angles. The first is the look of the oriental on the interbreeding with the west. The other is the Western’s view of miscegenation with the East. This album is according to Ibrahim a research work. Far from being an outcome, it is part of an artistic and intimate therapeutic approach.

“Dalida by Ibrahim Maalouf”, the new album of Ibrahim Maalouf. For the anniversary of the 30th anniversary of Dalida’s death, the Barclay label wished to entrust to Ibrahim Maalouf an original creation around his repertoire. Surrounded by his big band and prestigious guests (Alain Souchon, Ben L’Oncle Soul, Melody Gardot, Monica Bellucci, -M-, Izia, Mika, Thomas Dutronc, Rokia Traore, Arno and Golshifteh Farahani), the trumpet player, composer and French-Lebanese arranger went to get the essence of the titles of Dalida that he carefully selected, to rearrange them in his own way, with humility. The jazz approach of Ibrahim Maalouf sublimates the work of Dalida.

On November 6, 2020, the day after his 40th birthday, musician and composer Ibrahim Maalouf will unveil his 12th studio album entitled “40 melodies” in reference to his 40 candles.

The album is totally different from the previous projects of the artist since for the first time in 15 years of discography, Ibrahim proposes an intimate duo with his friend and collaborator of more than 10 years, the Belgian guitarist François Delporte.

The duo revisits Ibrahim’s melodies that have marked the spirits, both on his albums and on his B. O, but also some unreleased tracks. All with the appearance of a string of prestigious surprise guests (Sting, Matthieu Chedid, Marcus Miller, Alfredo Rodriguez, Richard Bona, Trilok Gurtu, Hüsnü Senlendrici, Jon Batiste, Arturo Sandoval, and many others).

Ibrahim returns to his origins and the essentials: a trumpet, a guitar and 40 melodies, to celebrate his 40th birthday.
