Thibault’s universal playing and graceful personality charmed and bring together all audiences. The specialized critics as well as the most popular medias are unanimously seduced by the « Cauvin Phenomenon ». A classical musician has rarely been seen in the French media as much as he is — Quotidien by Yann Barthès, Entrée Libre by Claire Chazal, Stupéfiant by Léa Salamé, Alcaline on France 2, Les Victoires de la Musique Classique on France 3, etc… France Musique even highlighted him for a full day. The young lord of the strings has grown up and his dream to move people’s heart seems to come true.

Thibault Cauvin does not flaunt all his accolades. And for good reason: thirty-six medals – including thirteen first prizes won between the ages of eighteen and twenty! – would make this guitar hotshot, born in 1984, look like a war veteran. Better than a fingertip, three jewels intended for strings other than his own serve as a starting point for this voyage. “Scarlatti has been with me for many years and I have always felt close to his sonatas, which are brilliant, dynamic and full of mischief,” he wrote in the introduction to the album he devoted to them in 2013 (Sony). Among other evocative detours, the postcards of Albéniz and the Argentinean rhythms of Piazzolla will rub shoulders with the swing of Ellington and the charm of Jobim.

Anastasia Kobekina suggests the history of the cello through ellipses, jumps in time between pieces from the 18th century, among the very first written for this instrument alone (Boccherini, Fesch, Galliard), and others from our time (Thierry Escaich, Jules Matton) which draw their writing processes and their sound palettes from the ancient repertoire. Whether it is a question of nostalgia, sometimes ironic, of homage or of intellectual and artistic transmission between composers, the compositions for cello are never born ex-nihilo. By returning to the sources of the Baroque era, composers write the present and the future of the cello. Anastasia Kobekina blurs the boundaries by building indescribable bridges between their so diverse writings.
