Weather Walker, the monumental, atmospheric and unfailingly melodic new orchestral album from one of Europe’s most prolific composers and instrumentalists, Tim Garland, takes its inspiration from The Lake District in the North West of England. Tim is a musician with equal talent and scope both as a performer and composer and Weather Walker showcases his sheer brilliance and ambition, confirming his reputation as one of contemporary music’s most forward-thinking figures. Recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studio 1 with a 43 piece string section, this epic production contains some of his best large ensemble writing. Uniting his regular collaborators, pianist Rebello and bassist Gabolev, with a 35 piece string orchestra, Weather Walker is also a first-time collaboration with the exciting and progressive German pianist Pablo Held, a musician with an equally strong sense of harmony and freedom of expression.

British jazz saxophonist Tim Garland and an all-star British band celebrate some of the music and the musicians that have inspired Garland over the course of his career. The title is a nod to his breakthrough 1995 album Enter The Fire which brought Garland to the attention of Chick Corea. I met Tim Garland through his original Enter The Fire and I wanted some of that fire in my band, thus our long musical friendship began. This Return to the Fire shows Tim, his beautiful compositions and the band’s prowess completely. Thanks to Tim and his compadres for keeping the music fires burning brightly.

One of the UKs finest saxophonists, and a member of Chick Corea’s legendary band, Tim Garland has taken the classic Stan Getz album with strings, Focus, from 1961 and created a reworking for our time. This is not a slavish recreation, or an attempt at nostalgia, but the result of a creative mind working in the spirit of the album, and with the legacy of a great artist. It’s an exercise in expressing the past in the present and the future.

Fraîchement débarqué sur Edition, le saxophoniste de jazz Tim Garland sort déjà un troisième album pour ce label. Avec son quartet composé du pianiste Jason Rebello, du guitariste Ant Law et du batteur Asaf Sirkis, le Britannique livre un album riche et varié. On sent une vraie communion entre les musiciens et leur complémentarité est source de liberté créative. Abordant des thèmes parfois labyrinthiques, les virtuoses marquent leur musique de nombreuses influences permettant des changements d’atmosphère bénéfiques, contribuant au dynamisme de l’écoute. Des invités viennent parfois prêter leur voix le temps d’une chanson, comme pour Pity The Poor Arms Dealers, chanson engagée écrite par Garland où Dionne Bennett joue de ses cordes vocales. One est de ces albums de jazz qui demandent plusieurs écoutent approfondies pour en découvrir toute la richesse. (more…)
